BEER — Beer is not a post-workout drink. Let me repeat that. Beer is not a post-workout drink. However, choosing your brew of choice carefully can help your athletic performance in the long run. Men’s Health has an interesting rundown of the best beers for, well, everything. Look here: http://tiny.cc/beerme303
SPORTS DRINKS — Don’t get too carried away with sports drinks. According to a study conducted at the James Madison University Human Performance Lab, chocolate milk gives an athlete in the midst of a vigorous training regimen all the same advantages of a “electrolyte”-laden sports drink. The study came with two caveats, though: This is only true for those on a heavy-duty workout program – 30 minutes on the treadmill doesn’t count – and it was conducted at James Madison, which hasn’t done much in terms of “human performance” in the eyes of the NCAA.
